Job Description

As we look at the regulatory landscape one of the most visible topics on the horizon is that of Operational Resilience. With the UK regulator taking the lead, the Central Bank of Ireland is following close behind – with this theme expected to be a key area of focus in the near term.

With this in mind, one of Ireland’s largest investment firms is looking for someone to come on board to analyse current organisational structures and then help develop a strategy for embedding Operational Resilience frameworks across the firm.

The core objective here is to gain a real appreciation about what’s most important to keep the business going. What are the people, relationships, systems or processes that if interrupted will have the most negative knock-on effect? Is the business exposed because of an over-reliance on any one item among these categories?

To answer these questions, your first task will be to gain a deep understanding of how the business works operationally.

Your Day-to-Day

You’ll need to analyse then target the critical items that need attention first. From there you’ll work with the business to decide what needs to be addressed most urgently and how.

It could mean setting up better monitoring & reporting around an area or fleshing out incident management plans.

It will definitely mean coming up with metrics on how long an interruption in service will cause real harm and then establishing tolerance (or intolerance!) markers around that.

You’ll also be putting together ‘what if’ scenarios and stress testing for certain services or external relationships and helping develop a back-up strategy if things fall down.

Of course, this is all easy to say in a few short paragraphs but in reality, success will be an incremental process that will involve working hand-in-hand over time with existing interested stakeholders across the business.

Your sphere of co-operation will include current business continuity planners, 3rd party risk managers and operational risk specialists – to name but a few.

You’ll also be working under direct guidance of the Head of First Line Risk – who has already worked hard in getting the necessary buy-in from the business on the importance of this area. Suffice to say, in implementing the relevant frameworks you’ll be pushing against an open door.

Requirements for this Role

  • A strong Risk or Regulatory background. Solid experience in Financial Operations or Operational Oversight will work too.
  • You’ll be an independent thinker – Analytical & Strategic – Someone who goes beyond simply following processes.
  • Comfort with Regulation and an understanding of how it can drive business improvement rather than just something to be complied with.
  • An understanding of Insurance Risk and areas such as Solvency II would be an advantage.

Other Details

You’ll be working remotely for the foreseeable future aiming for a hybrid flexible working model thereafter.

Remuneration will be competitive with Pension and Annual Bonus being particularly strong.

The firm you’ll be joining is a prominent asset management firm with assets growing substantially in recent years to over €20bn AUM.
