Candidates often rule out Internal Audit immediately without considering the potential long-term career opportunities. However, we work in a global economy – to progress to a CFO or related role, international experience is increasingly becoming a prerequisite.
Internal Audit can offer international experience and travel, the ability to work with global operations from manufacturing, distribution, supply chain, technology etc. Internal Auditors tend to progress into commercially focused roles in the longer term.
Internal auditors are typically employed by the organization but are independent of the activities they audit. Their role is to provide independent, objective assurance to organizations through a systematic, disciplined approach. They must continuously review the organization’s processes and goals and provide advice to all levels of management on how to improve these processes. Internal auditors must communicate their assessments with clarity and accuracy in order to enable executive management to implement the suggested improvements in a meaningful way.
